  • K-Pop & Asian Identity

Saya minat jugak cerita Korea. Banyak jugak tengok daripada dulu. Cerita favourite saya Autumn in My Heart, Second Proposal dengan Stairway to Heaven.

Tapi saya bukanlah follower sejati K-Pop. Setakat minat macam tu je. Tapi semalam lepas baca blog Amira Afiqah, mengucap panjang.

Bukan sebab penulisan blog dia, tapi sebab komen-komen yang orang tinggalkan (especially anak-anak gadis Melayu) yang dah tahap gila meroyan.

    clip_image002

Pardon my Photoshop skill y’all. Ceritanya gini. Amira Afiqah ni ada orang curi gambar dia dari facebook, and orang tu gunakan picture dia untuk buat blog entry mengutuk K-Pop. Means blog ni bukan tulisan dia, tapi tulisan penyamar dia.

Kalau anda semua nak tau, blog dia ada satu je entry, iaitu Kpop?euww. Tapi satu entry je dah dapat 2087 komen (sampai pukul 11:14 pm 13 Disember, waktu Malaysia). 2087 komen tu sangat banyak untuk entry yang baru berusia  8 hari! OK, fellow bloggers, you know what I mean.

And kalau anda nak tau, yang komen tu semuanya peminat K-Pop. Deorang sangat marah sebab penyamar Amira Afiqah tu kutuk bintang pujaan hati deorang.

Ok sorry if you are a K-pop lover (I know many of my friends are), but I think I have to agree with the imposter’s comment on this Korean’s guy appearance. I don’t know if you think he’s cute but I seriously think his cuteness is equivalent to a dog’s (and it depends on your interpretation whether you think dogs are cute or not).

I’m not racist, but I dislike those Asians who are not proud to be Asians. What’s the point of you colouring your hair, or dying it or bleaching it? And what’s the point of you doing nosejob (rhinoplasty) just that you would look more Europeans more than you are Asians?

It’s just proof that you don’t respect your identity enough to be proud of it. To tell the truth, I am turned on by original Asian women more than those celup Caucasians do me.

You see, what’s the point of loving yourself if you want your eyes to look blue, or your hair to be blonde? It means you don’t value yourself enough.

Tau tak kenapa buruk orang Asia rambut blonde? Sebab your skin colour doesn’t match your hair, and if you are Orient, your tiny eyes do not look good with Mat Salleh’s hair. (Don’t think I’m racist, I’m half-Chinese and I have mata sepet also). Kalau African macam Beyonce, at least the chocolate colour of her skin matches her hair colour. Tapi Asian tidak, OK?

Back to the question, the main reason I’m not a big fan of K-Pop because I think they’re not original. It’s as simple as that. They are walking proof that in order to achieve greatness, you have to be somebody else. You cannot remain being who you are if you want to succeed.

You know why Anggun succeeded to break through the French and Italian market? Because she brought along her identity, her sense of pride being an Asian. The Europeans loved her because they thought her as exotic, original and mysterious. She wrote many of her songs with sprinkles of Malay (Indonesian) words, which gave that Javanese mystic character to her songs.

    Anggun Cipta Sasmi

She still has her dark long hair with her Javanese persona when she first sang aboard. Her first single, La Neige Au Sahara (Snow on the Sahara) was the most played song in France for 1997. You think there’s any other Asian singer or performer can top that? Think again.

Anggun remains the most successful single singer from Nusantara (Malay Archipelago) aboard, and not even Siti Nurhaliza can beat that. And perhaps, she is the most successful Asian singer in France we have ever seen. And she was able to do that while at the same time carrying the culture of her country into her songs.
And compare that with the K-Pop performers. Compare the originality. The image. The songs. The image of their country.

    Ok, I’ll stop at that.

Now back to the blog of Amira Afiqah’s imposter.

Komen-komen yang dihamburkan peminat K-Pop agak biadab, sehingga kepada tahap mengugut bunuh, mengugut menoreh mukanya dengan pisau, menghinanya dengan panggilan babi dan sebagainya.

    kpopeuw1

Wow. Indahnya bahasa, seindah nama pemiliknya.

    kpopeuw2

Wah, nenek dia sangat cantik! OK, saya percaya!

    kpopeuw3

Wah, adik ni lagi marah. Macam orang kutuk suami dia pulak, sampai nak membabi-babikan orang lain.

    Tapi yang ni lagi best:

    kpopeuw4

Nak toreh muka? Pergh, dahsyat jugak adik pocoyolala. Lepas dia tau Amira Afiqah buat report polis, tengok apa jadi:

    kpopeuw5

Tau pun takut. Terus dia delete komen dia, padahal dia yang ugut si (penyamar) Amira suruh delete post dia. Tapi malangnya si pakcik Amira, wartawan jenayah bernama Hazrey (www.hazrey.com) dah berjaya print screen semua ugutan yang peminat-peminat K-Pop hamburkan. Deorang dah buat report polis pun.

Kesian Amira. Sebab orang lain, habis muka dengan keluarga dia kena kutuk tak pasal-pasal dengan orang fanatik K-Pop. Ni baru K-Pop, so tak hairanlah kalau fanatik politik pun tahap maki-maki ciptaan Tuhan.

Bukan satu ye komen, 2087 komen. And entry ni pulak cuma ada 52 perkataan, bukan panjang pun. Tapi rage peminat K-Pop macam budak ni dah buat Holocaust dekat semua penyanyi dan performers K-Pop.

Ironinya, yang takde identiti sendiri tulah yang kita puja. Kita agungkan sampai tahap fanatik membabi buta. Tak salah nak minat, tapi mesti ada hadnya. Saya minat Anggun, tapi kalau orang kutuk dia saya takdelah tahap nak rage melampau-lampau. Chill sudah. Bukan ada effect dekat kita pun. (Ok, so far takdelah orang kutuk Anggun gila babeng. Ramai jugak minat suara dia).

Itu jelah yang saya nak cakap. Saya tak menyokong K-Pop haters ataupun menyokong K-Pop lovers. Kita semua ada minat masing-masing. Cuma bersederhanalah.

Untuk menutup entry ni, saya persembahkan video klip Anggun yang bertajuk A Rose in The Wind.

    7. I'm a Kpop fan. But I have to agree with you in term of "those Asians who are not proud to be Asians". I also dislike those people who coloured their hair/ underwent plastic surgery.
But in term of originality, I'm not sure. Originality in music is so rare these days. Basically, almost all pop genre songs aren't that original, including from Malaysia, the US and others.

In the end, I really agreed with your statement: "Kita semua ada minat masing-masing. Cuma bersederhanalah." Because as a Kpop fan, I don't like those obsessed and delusional fans too.

    9. agree with cik seni! Im kpop fan too! and Im not angry at all. Im kpop fan for almost 5 years already. I hate those fan who too obsess with their fav kpop artist. budak2 skrg mmg mcm da takde adab. kalau korang obsess sngt kt dia, ingt dia kenal korg ke..

    10. I am not a K-Pop fan because haven't been infected with the Garyuu Wave, tengok Winter Sonata etc etc (I did however, see the Classic sampai abis satu baldi airmata). Gi concert MTV Live kat Malaysia buat pekak telinga aje bila fans Be2st jerit2 maser Be2st perform, walhal same formula cam zaman BSB, WestLife etc. (Tapi hardcore fan of 30STM, serupa gak :P ). Yg positive thing abt K-Pop, I like their fashion & photoshoot so that I can have inspiration in my artwork.

IMO K-Pop is no diff than J-Pop/J-Rock/Rock/Pop yg wa layan, tapi x seobsess sampai nak kutuk2 org. Berpada2la. Kalo ada niat sampai nak bunuh org tu, serupala ngan Mark David Chapman (John Lennon killer)

    11. salam kpd tuan blog...menarik post kali ini..untuk pengetahuan..saya sgt meminati genre metal (so k-pop n jauh panggang dri api la)..tapi yg nk ditekankan disini adalah had..tersangat la ramai org bercakap tentang hak skrg n..tapi mereka lupe pasal had mereka..

berbalik kpd post ini..mereka telah lupe had mereka sebagai seorang fan..sbagai seorang peminat metal..saya hadkan minat saya kpd corak permainan muzik mereka shja..perwatakan dan ideologi yg dibawa mereka saya tapis bersesuaian dengan cara hidop orang timur...

anyway syabas kpd tuan blog atas tulisan yg santai dan menarik..keep up the good work..

    14. it's because you 'kutuk' kpop secara neutral people don't mind. really, i'm a huge fan of kpop and who doesn't get pissed? if you don't like kpop and you have some opinions to say, then fine, but don't kutuk membabi buta or else other people will kutuk membabi buta. maybe there's so many kpop fans because other people can see the originality, past the make up, past the plastic surgery, they saw personality.

that amira or her imposter, whoever she is, she was condemning people on her looks, how does that make her better? anyway, this is good, some points i agree but people judge kpop too fast to know that these idols are more real than american artists or malay artists for that matter.

but I think no one will bash you if you say your opinion properly. :)

    15. i'm one of the kpop fans... well, who cares if they undergo plastic surgery???? it's their rights. me myself like kpop bcoz of their songs... well, there's no such things as voice implant, is there??? their voice are original.. as for their looks, Korea are known for their expertise in plastic surgery so they have to follow the flow if they want to succeed.. moreover, u shud realise that some of m'sian artist tried to be them... meaning that kpop have a great impact on them... p/s: i'm a upm student too...

    16. Some are true, some are not... Though you said well on certain things, but to kutuk ckp muka mcm anjing, that's a bit low... I mean, Allah juga yang cipta his face... But I agree with some other points. And yes, agreeing on the obsessed thing, it's getting worse nowadays. Tapi don't go as far as conclude all kpoppers are like that....

But, hey! At least you take effort to tegur and speak out your mind ^_^

      ReplyDelete
    17. @ myra-lynnette err... sorry to burst your bubble but pernah dengar satu program called "Auto-Tune"?
Org guna nak betulkan pitch & threshold of the voice digitally.

Abt Plastic surgery.... *sigh* IMO, if the face/ look is fake, surely the personality is fake as well. I didn't buy that argument, sorry...

1 bende aje nak cakap... BEHOLD THE POWER OF MARKETING!

      ReplyDelete
    18. thx MieHanz for that one. =) u'd really speak out my mind!

n blossom sakura, i have no intention to say anything bad about his face. depends la org nak fikir anjing comel atau tak, it's actually a neutral stance. the same way ada org kata panda cute, n some say the exact opposite.

    23. Okay... 1st time nak bagitau saye mmg big big fans of KPOP. U'r entry is an open entry good job. Tapi untuk gambar yg saudara post tu dye tak buat plastic surgery. saye tawu nnti semua akn tanye,"mana la ko tawu dye tak buat, takkan la dye tak buat" well his school pictures prove it. Nanti saye tunjukkan buktinya. saye tak marah atas ape yg saudara tunjukkan sbb the truth most kpop fans yg mengamuk nie sumenye newborns one. for me yg dah dekat 9 tahun being a kpop fans won't take part in such act.

I admit, most Kpop Idols do plastic surgery and to name them is not hard... rmi yang buat, even yg plg feymes pun buat. tapi about coloring their hairs, sbenarnye tak salah kowt for them who aren't muslims. biarla dowg nak wane2 wambut sekali pn, kite bukan boleh buat ape. Yes yg diatas tu name dye Yoseob, main vocal of BEAST, and I admit he really looks like a dog. but for dog are cute u know... so u'r actually complimenting him kekeke. so dun worry da namenye blog, people will comment and bash. it is what they do... tq
      terpanjang lak...
