Subsequently, the supernatant was decanted. (Nemati, 2011)
Salam Peeps! Do you know what the meaning of the above words is? Ah, don’t sweat it. I don’t understand them either.
It is a line I’ve got from a journal I read. And it is so technical that I as a science student also have difficulties to understand the journal word by word. Though it was just a 4 words sentence, it sure as hell not an ordinary one.
Oh, how I love to nag! I was reviewing my methods so that i can memorise them by heart, but the greatest accomplishment i had so far is remaining sane throughout this craziness. How can I understand my methods when I don’t even understand the meaning of supernatant, or decanted for all that matter?
It’s going to be a very long week, and I don’t know if I can remain mentally stable for the period.
Oh, and by the way, after googling, this is what I’ve got: supernatant means “the liquid lying above a solid residue after crystallization, precipitation, centrifugation, or other process”, while decant means “gradually pour (liquid, typically wine or a solution) from one container into another, esp. without disturbing the sediment.” OK, now I know.
OK la membebel. Malas nak update panjang-panjang, sebab tengah sibuk. Lagipun update ni masa lunch hour je, sementara berehat sekejap. Wish me luck untuk labwork, OK?

English is damn hard in term of scientific term! I don't understand gradually means what until my SV told me that it means slow and and steady increase.
ReplyDeleteI wish you the best, my firend!
